What affects the cost of van sign writing?

Two vans can look similar and cost very different amounts to letter. These are the things that make the difference, so you know what to ask for.

1. The size of the vehicle

A small car-derived van has far less surface than a long-wheelbase high-roof van, and a trailer or horsebox can be bigger again. More surface means more material and more fitting time.

2. How much of it is covered

Lettering uses the least material. A part wrap covers a section, and a full wrap covers every painted panel. See lettering vs a full wrap for how to choose.

3. Printed or cut vinyl

Cut vinyl comes in solid colours and suits lettering and simple shapes. Printed graphics allow photos, gradients and any number of colours, and they’re laminated to protect the print.

4. The vinyl itself

Calendered vinyl is the economical choice for flat panels. Cast vinyl moulds around curves, recesses and rivets and lasts longer. Reflective and high-visibility films cost more again and are often needed for vehicles that work on the roads.

5. Design work

If you have a finished logo in a vector format, design is quick. If we’re tidying up a logo, redrawing one from a photo or creating a new look, that takes longer. Our guide to artwork file formats explains what to send.

6. Removing old graphics

Old, sun-baked vinyl and the adhesive under it can take longer to remove than new graphics take to fit. Send a photo and we’ll factor it in.

7. Fleets and repeats

Once a design is drawn and set up for one vehicle, repeating it across more of the same model is quicker than starting again.

8. Where it’s fitted

Bringing the van to our Chippenham workshop is free. If we come to you, travel is free within 10 miles of Chippenham; beyond that it’s £2 a mile there and back, counting every mile, paid in advance. A job 20 miles away is 40 miles there and back, so £80.
